Kristi Hiller, Director
I spent most of my life living in Huntsville, AL, spending countless hours at Monte Sano State Park, until my husband and I bought an old log cabin in a Tennessee hollow. This is where we began our journey into homesteading, got married, and had our two daughters. My family moved to South Carolina in 2024, where we have since started a new homestead with chickens and our Yotee dog.
I received my BS in Business Administration (Marketing) from Auburn University in 2011. Before I became a stay-at-home mom, I operated a multi-state family business with my dad across 15+ states with 70+ storefronts. Currently, my husband and I are co-owners of the local Window World of the Midlands with my mom and step-dad, which is the primary reason we moved to SC. My desire to create a homeschool co-op was fueled by my own kids and our need for community. When we were living in TN, we were part of a Wild + Free group as well as a smaller “crunchy moms group.” We lost this community when we moved to another state, so it was something I was quickly and actively seeking out.
For many years now, I have felt compelled to offer a different type of education to my children: one that keeps their innate love of learning alive and has them immersed in the natural world, following their own interests and nurturing their whole selves. Outside of co-op, I love to hike, camp, and do anything outdoors; grow and preserve my own food; practice yoga; read lots of books across various genres; deepen my understanding of holistic health; and see live music. I feel most at ease in the forest. This is where I go to clear my mind, and it’s where I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
My aim for LML is to be a community where children and caregivers alike can learn together, play together, grow together, realize their fullest potential together, have fun, and thrive. I want our families to deepen their appreciation for and love of this incredible planet we live on so that we can go forth as ambassadors protecting and caring for the earth. I have our “Nature Warrior’s Oath” hanging on the wall in our schoolhouse for this daily reminder.
